Historic Pa. firehouse to be sold

by @ Friday, December 29th, 2006. Filed under Uncategorized

The borough is going to sell its historic downtown firehouse to a developer.

The borough bought the 81-year-old Hatfield Volunteer Fire Co. building for $200,000 in 1999 to make sure its historic character was maintained after the fire company moved to a new facility. Officials said it will be sold to the Gambone Development Co. for $250,000.

“The borough wanted to obtain it to have some control over what the building was used for, being a large building in the middle of the core commercial district,” said council member Larry Stevens. “They did rent it out for a time while council tried to decide the best direction to go with the building.”

Stevens said the tenant’s lease ended around 2005 and the 16,000-square-foot building has been vacant since then.
